Terms of Use

By accessing or using POLISCOPE, you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. If you use POLISCOPE for an organization, you represent that you may accept these terms for that organization.

You must be at least 13 years old. If the law where you live requires parental consent for a minor to use an online service, you may use POLISCOPE only with that consent.

POLISCOPE organizes public records, reporting, and machine-assisted analysis to help people understand government. It is independent and is not an official government, election, legal, financial, tax, or investment service. Summaries can be incomplete, delayed, or wrong. Verify deadlines, ballot eligibility, polling places, legal obligations, and consequential decisions with the linked primary source or responsible public office.

A source link shows where information came from; it is not an endorsement. Forecasts, scores, rankings, inferred relationships, generated text, and AI answers are informational outputs with uncertainty, not statements of fact beyond their cited evidence.

Core public browsing may be available without an account. For account features, provide accurate information, protect your credentials and devices, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless caused by POLISCOPE's failure to use reasonable security.

You may delete a signed-in account in Settings. Deletion is permanent. Applicable paid service is cancelled before local account erasure; amounts already paid are governed by the purchase terms and applicable law.

You may use POLISCOPE for lawful civic, personal, educational, journalistic, and authorized professional purposes. You may not:

• break access controls, probe non-public systems, distribute malware, interfere with service, or overwhelm endpoints;
• use another person's account, impersonate a person or organization, or misrepresent attribution;
• harass, threaten, dox, defame, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone;
• publish content you lack the right to submit, remove source attribution, or manipulate civic evidence deceptively;
• use automated access in violation of published API terms, technical controls, or an express written agreement; or
• use the service to facilitate unlawful election interference, fraud, or violence.

You retain ownership of content you submit. You grant POLISCOPE a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, process, reproduce, format, and display that content only as needed to provide, secure, improve, and distribute the feature you selected. A public submission may be viewed, quoted, shared, and preserved in public records or moderation evidence; private workspace and support content remains limited to the applicable service boundary.

You represent that you have the rights needed to submit the content and that it complies with these terms. POLISCOPE may label, limit, correct, remove, or preserve submissions when needed for source integrity, safety, law, or dispute handling.

Prices, billing interval, renewal terms, trial terms, and included features are shown before purchase. Payments are processed by Stripe or the applicable app marketplace. Subscriptions renew until cancelled. Account deletion cancels connected POLISCOPE paid service, but deleting an app does not itself cancel a marketplace subscription. Marketplace purchases and refunds also follow the marketplace's rules.

A donation does not purchase influence over coverage or editorial decisions. POLISCOPE is not currently a registered 501(c)(3), and contributions are not tax deductible.

The POLISCOPE name, software, original design, analysis, and compilation are protected by applicable intellectual-property law. Public government records remain subject to their source rights and public-record rules. These terms do not grant a right to copy or redistribute proprietary software or a substantial proprietary compilation.

Third-party sites, sources, sign-in providers, payment services, and app stores have their own terms and policies. POLISCOPE is not responsible for a third party's service. On Apple platforms, Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies where required and these terms do not reduce rights Apple requires you to have.

Address search and related location features may be powered by Google Maps Platform (including the Places API). By using those features you additionally agree to the Google Terms of Service, including the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service, and Google’s handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

POLISCOPE may add, change, limit, or discontinue features, coverage, and integrations. We may suspend or terminate access to protect users, sources, infrastructure, legal compliance, or civic integrity, or for a material breach of these terms. Where practical, we will give notice and an opportunity to address the issue.

Terms that by their nature must survive—such as ownership, required record retention, disclaimers, and liability limits—continue after account closure.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, POLISCOPE is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant uninterrupted availability, complete coverage, or error-free summaries, predictions, data, or third-party sources. We do not disclaim obligations or consumer rights that cannot legally be disclaimed.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, POLISCOPE is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or lost profits, data, goodwill, or opportunities arising from use of the service. Any aggregate liability for a claim relating to paid service will not exceed the amount you paid POLISCOPE for that service during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. This limitation does not apply where prohibited by law.

We may update these terms by posting a revised date and, for material changes, providing additional notice when appropriate. Continued use after revised terms take effect means you accept them. Disputes are governed by applicable law and may be brought in a court with lawful jurisdiction; these terms do not require private arbitration or waive a right to participate in a class proceeding.
